Maya Ameyaw was born and raised in Toronto by a family of poets and artists. She previously worked as a bookseller while studying sociology at York University. She currently works for InkWell Workshops, a community writing group for people with lived experience of mental health issues.
Maya has curated and edited several mental health themed anthologies for youth and adults with funding from the Toronto Arts Council. A deleted excerpt of her upcoming novel is featured in the anthology Brilliance Is The Clothing I Wear (Dundurn Press, 2021.)
In her free time, Maya enjoys cuddling up with her adorable dwarf rabbit and devouring as much YA as possible. She also loves exploring all the bookstores that Toronto has to offer.
Maya’s contemporary YA debut When It All Syncs Up (Annick Press, Spring 2023) has been awarded multiple grants by the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is represented by Lesley Sabga and Julie Gwinn of The Seymour Agency.
