Maya Ameyaw is a contemporary YA writer. She was born and raised in Toronto by a family of poets and artists. Maya previously worked as a bookseller while studying sociology at York University. She currently works for InkWell Workshops, a community writing group for people with lived experience of mental health issues.
Maya has curated and edited several mental health themed anthologies for youth and adults with funding from the Toronto Arts Council. An excerpt of her unpublished YA novel will be featured in the upcoming anthology Brilliance Is The Clothing I Wear (Dundurn Press, June 2021.)
In her free time, Maya enjoys cuddling up with her adorable dwarf rabbit and devouring as much YA as possible. She also loves exploring all the bookstores, theaters, and restaurants that Toronto has to offer.
When It All Synchs Up, her contemporary YA work in progress, has been awarded grants by the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council of the Arts.
